The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi approved the launching of the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) as a standalone Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
The scheme has a total outlay of Rs.2481 crore (Government of India share – Rs.1584 crore; State share – Rs.897 crore) till the 15th Finance Commission (2025-26).
The Government of India has launched the National Mission on Natural Farming (NMNF) to promote natural farming in mission mode across the country as a standalone Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
Rooted in the traditional knowledge inherited from their forefathers, farmers will practise Natural Farming (NF) as a chemical free farming which involves local livestock integrated natural farming methods, diversified crop systems, etc. NF follows local agro-ecological principles rooted in local knowledge, location specific technologies and is evolved as per the local agro-ecology.
NMNF aims at promoting NF practices for providing safe & nutritious food for all. The Mission is designed to support farmers to reduce input cost of cultivation and dependency to externally purchased inputs. Natural farming will build & maintain healthy soil ecosystems, promote biodiversity and encourage diverse cropping systems to enhance resilience as suitable to the local agroecology are the benefits of natural farming. NMNF is launched as a shift to scientifically revive and strengthen agriculture practices towards sustainability, climate resilience and healthy food for farmer families and consumers.
In the next two years, NMNF will be implemented in 15,000 clusters in Gram Panchayats, which are willing, & reach 1 crore farmers and initiate Natural Farming (NF) in 7.5 lakh Ha area. Preference will be given to areas having prevalence of practising NF farmers, SRLM / PACS / FPOs, etc. Further, need-based 10,000 Bio-input Resource Centres (BRCs) will be set-up to provide easy availability and accessibility to ready-to-use NF inputs for farmers.
Under NMNF, around 2000 NF Model Demonstration Farms shall be established at Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Agricultural Universities (AUs) and farmers’ fields, and shall be supported by experienced and trained Farmer Master Trainers. The willing farmers will be trained in Model Demonstration Farms on the NF package of practices, preparation of NF inputs, etc. near their villages in KVKs, AUs and practising NF farmers’ fields. 18.75 lakh trained willing farmers will prepare inputs like Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, etc. by using their livestock or procure from BRCs. 30,000 Krishi Sakhis/ CRPs will be deployed for awareness generation, mobilisation and handholding of willing farmers in the clusters. Natural Farming practices will help farmers to reduce input cost of cultivation and dependency on externally purchased inputs while rejuvenating soil health, fertility & quality and building resilience to climate risks like waterlogging, flood, drought, etc. These practices also reduce health risks from exposure to fertilisers, pesticides, etc. and provide healthy & nutritious food for the farmers’ family. Further, through Natural Farming, a healthy Mother Earth is bequeathed to the future generations. Through improvement of soil carbon content & water use efficiency, there is an increase in soil microorganisms and biodiversity in NF.
Farmers will be provided with an easy simple certification system and dedicated common branding to provide access to market their natural farming produce. Real time geo-tagged & referenced monitoring of NMNF implementation shall be done through an online portal.
Convergence with existing schemes and support structures of Government of India/ State Governments/ National & International Organisations shall be explored for enhancing local livestock population, development of NF Model Demonstration Farms at Central Cattle Breeding Farms/ Regional Fodder Stations, provide market linkages at district/ block/ GP levels through convergence for local farmers’ markets, APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) Mandis, Haats, Depots, etc. Additionally, students will be engaged in NMNF through the RAWE program and dedicated Undergraduate, Postgraduate & Diploma courses on NF.

దేశవ్యాపితంగా 2020 జనవరి 8న ”భారత గ్రామీణ బంద్”కు అఖిల భారత రైతాంగ పోరాట సమన్వయ సమితి పిలుపు ఇచ్చింది. ఆ రోజు గ్రామీణ ప్రాంత వాస్తవ సాగుదారులు, వ్యవసాయ కూలీలు, పశుపోషకులు, చేతి వృత్తుల వారు, ఆదివాసీ ప్రాంతాలలో వ్యవసాయం చేస్తున్న ఆదివాసీ రైతులు సమ్మెలో పాల్గ్గొంటున్నారు.
ఆరోజు గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతాల నుండి వ్యవసాయ ూత్పత్తులు (పంటలు, పాలు, కూరగాయలు, పండ్లు), ఇతర ూత్పత్తులు బయట నగరాలకు వెళ్లకుండా ఆపడం, పట్టణ ప్రాంతాల నుండి వచ్చే ూత్పత్తులను, సేవలను గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతానికి రాకుండా అడ్డుకోవడం ఈ గ్రామీణ భారత్ బంద్ లక్ష్యం.
దేశ వ్యాప్తంగా గ్రామీణ వ్యవసాయ కుటుంబాలు, చేతివృత్తుల వారు తీవ్ర సంక్షోభంలో ూన్నారు. గత 20 సంవత్సరాల కాలంలో దేశవ్యాప్తంగా 3,25,000 మంది రైతులు బలవన్మరణాలకు పాల్పడ్డారు. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్, తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్రాలలో కూడా వేలాది మంది ఆత్మహత్యలు చేసుకున్నారు. ప్రతిరోజూ కనీసం రెండు వేల మంది వ్యవసాయాన్ని విడిచిపెట్టి ఇతర ప్రాంతాలకు వలస వెళుతున్నారు. వ్యవసాయ కుటుంబాలు అప్పుల ఊబిలో కూరుకుపోయి ూన్నాయి. వ్యవసాయ కుటుంబాలకు ప్రభుత్వాల నుండి అందే సహాయం, బడ్జెట్ కేటాయింపులు కూడా క్రమంగా తగ్గిపోతున్నాయి. సబ్సిడీ పథకాలకు నిధుల కొరత ఏర్పడుతున్నది. బ్యాంకుల నుండి సంస్థాగత రుణాలు రైతులకు సకాలంలో అందడం లేదు. ఫలితంగా పంటల బీమా పరిధిలోకి వచ్చే రైతుల సంఖ్య క్రమంగా తగ్గిపోతున్నది. దీని వల్ల ప్రకృతి వైపరీత్యాల కారణంగా రైతులు పంటలను నష్ట పోయినపుడు వారికి ఎటువంటి పరిహారం అందడం లేదు. చాలా సందర్భాలలో కల్తీ విత్తనాల వల్ల, కల్తీ ఎరువులు, పురుగు మందుల వల్ల రైతులు పంట దిగుబడులను నష్టపోతున్నారు. రైతులు పండించే పంటలకు న్యాయమైన గిట్టుబాటు ధరలు దొరకడం లేదు. కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం ప్రతి సంవత్సరం కనీస మద్దతు ధరలను ప్రకటిస్తున్నా వాటికి చట్టబద్దత లేకపోవడం వల్ల ప్రభుత్వ మార్కెట్ యార్డ్లలో కూడా అవి అమలు కావడం లేదు. ప్రైవేటు వ్యాపారులు దళారులు రైతుల నుండి అతి తక్కువ ధరలకే పంటలను కొంటున్నారు. ఫలితంగా పెడుతున్న ఖర్చులకు, వస్తున్న ఆదాయానికి పొంతన లేక రైతులు అప్పుల ఊబిలో కూరుకుపోతున్నారు.
ఆదివాసీ ప్రాంతాలలో వ్యవసాయం చేస్తున్న పోడు రైతులకు ఎటువంటి సహాయం అందడం లేదు. అటవీ హక్కుల చట్టం ప్రకారం వారి భూములకు పట్టాలు దక్కడం లేదు. ఫలితంగా వారి వ్యవసాయానికి పంట రుణాలు, పంటల బీమా అందడంలేదు. ప్రత్యేక భౌగోళిక పరిస్థితులలో వారు వ్యవసాయం చేస్తున్నా వారి వ్యవసాయానికి ఎటువంటి ప్రత్యేక సహాయం లేదు. దేశవ్యాపితంగా, రెండు రాష్ట్రాలలో కౌలు రైతులు, వ్యవసాయ కూలీలు పెద్ద సంఖ్యలో ూన్నారు. కౌలు రైతులకు గుర్తింపు కానీ, వ్యవసాయ కూలీలకు సంక్షేమ పథకాలు కానీ అమలు కావడం లేదు. వ్యవసాయంలో కీలక పాత్ర పోషిస్తున్న గ్రామీణ మహిళలకు రైతులుగా గుర్తింపు లేదు. ఫలితంగా ఒంటరి మహిళా రైతులు, భూమిపై పట్టా హక్కులు లేని మహిళా రైతులు వ్యవసాయం చేస్తున్నా వారి వ్యవసాయానికి ఎటువంటి సహాయం దొరకడం లేదు.
ఈ స్థితిలోనే రైతులు 2020 జనవరి 8న భారత గ్రామీణ బందుకు పిలుపునిచ్చారు. దేశవ్యాప్తంగా 29 రాష్ట్రాలలో పనిచేస్తున్న 200 కు పైగా రైతు సంఘాలు, వ్యవసాయ కూలీ సంఘాలు, ఇతర గ్రామీణ పేదల సంఘాలు ఈ సమ్మెకు ూమ్మడిగా పిలుపు ఇచ్చాయి. ఈ సమ్మెను బలపరచాలని సమాజంలోని మిగిలిన శ్రేణుల ప్రజలకు విజ్ఞప్తి చేస్తూ, ఈ లేఖ రాస్తున్నాము. రాజకీయ పార్టీలు, స్వచ్ఛంద సంస్థలు, కార్మిక, ప్రజా సంఘాలు, మహిళా సంఘాలు, ూపాధ్యాయ, ూద్యోగ సంఘాలు, సహకార సంఘాలు, రైతు ూత్పత్తిదారుల సంఘాలు జనవరి 8న జరగనున్న గ్రామీణ బంద్కు మద్దతు ఇవ్వాలని విజ్ఞప్తి చేస్తున్నాము. ఆరోజు మీ గ్రామంలో / మండలంలో / జిల్లాలో గ్రామీణ రైతులు, వ్యవసాయ కూలీలు, పశుపోషకులు, ఆదివాసీలు, చేతివృత్తుల వారు నిర్వహించే బంద్కు పూర్తి స్థాయిలో సహకరించాలని, సంఘీభావం ప్రకటించాలని విజ్ఞప్తి చేస్తున్నాం. కేంద్ర, రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వాలు గ్రామీణ రైతుల ప్రజల సమస్యలపై దృష్టి సారించేలా ఒత్తిడి తెచ్చేందుకు గ్రామీణ ప్రజలు సాగిస్తున్న ఈ బంద్ను విజయవంతం చేయడానికి మీ వంతు సహకారం అందించాలని విజ్ఞప్తి చేస్తున్నాం.
Training on Managing Farmer Producer Organisations
CSA has organised two day training program from 11-12th March, 2020 to 18 FPOs promoted by NABARD in Telangana. The participants include the Board of Directors, CEOs and the Staff of NGOs who are acting as promoting institutions.
తెలంగాణ రైతు ఉత్పత్తి దారుల సంఘాల సీఈఓ లకు రెండు రోజుల శిక్షణా తరగతులు ఈ రోజు ముగిశాయి. సంఘాల నిర్వహణ లో చట్టపరంగా చేయవలసిన బాధ్యతలు, నిర్వహించాల్సిన రికార్డులు, వ్యాపార ప్రణాళికలు రూపొందించుకునే టప్పుడు తీసుకోవలసిన మెళకువలు,సేంద్రియ వ్యవసాయం కోసం సర్టిఫికెట్ పొందడం, విడి,విడి రైతు ఉత్పత్తి దారుల సంఘాలు ఫెడరేషన్ గా ఏర్పడితే కలిగే లాభాలు, సహజ ఆహారం, బే, నిషాన్ రైతు ఉత్పత్తిదారుల సంఘాల అనుభవాలు తదితర అనేక విషయాలు చర్చకు వచ్చాయి. అందరూ తాము నేర్చుకున్న విషయాలను తమ గ్రామాలు అభివృద్ధి చేసుకునేందుకు ఉపయోగించుకుంటూ సంఘాలను నడుపు కుంటామని ప్రకటించారు. వ్యవసాయ శాఖ అధికారులు ఈ సంఘాల అభివృద్ధి కోసం సహకరించాలని కోరారు.
Centre for Sustainable Agriculture has organised an Organisational Learning Workshop for Staff of Foundation for Ecological Security (FES). a three day workshop from 5th to 7th March, 2020 focusing on understanding the challenges in agriculture, opportunities for small and marginal farmers and building strategies and designing support systems for the farmers. CSA will work with the team to provide hand holding support over next one year.
Centre for Sustainable Agriculture celebrated its 16th foundation day on 4th March, 2020. The staff met and discussed about the journey and reaffirmed their commitment in caring for those who feed the nation.
A vision document for next five years (2020-2025) was discussed and approved.
MoU with Centurion University
Centre for Sustainable Agriculture has signed an MoU with Centurion University on 31st March, 2020 to develop and offer courses on Organic Farming. This would be part of BSc(Ag) they are already offering and also a certificate course for other entusiasts. Thanks dr. Centre for Sustainable Agriculture is a Regional Council for Participatory Guarantee System for organic certification. In partnership with National Centre for Organic Farming CSA has organised a two day training program on Participatory Guarantee System for ensuring organic integrity for the participants from AP and Telangana in Hyderabad on 27-28th November, 2019.
